PRESIDENT: LINA BEGDACHE, PHD, RDN, CNS-S lina begdache
Lina Begdache is an assistant professor in the Health and Wellness Studies department at Binghamton University. She is a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist, a Certified Nutrition Specialist -Scholar and a cell and molecular biologist whose research on nutrition involves both laboratory and clinical approaches. Her volunteer work extends to New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (NYSAND) where she
serves as the Nominating Chair 2017-2018 and a planning committee member for NYSAND 2019
Annual Meeting Expo. She had previously served as a webmaster and a Public Relation chair for STAND.
 

 
PRESIDENT-ELECT: REBECCA ROBINS, MSL, RD, CDN

Rebecca Robins is a Registered Dietitian at UHS Oncology.  Prior to this position she spent eight years as a
clinical dietitian at UHS Wilson Hospital and two years as a nutrition care manager in long term care. 
 
She received her Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition from Plattsburgh State University, completed her
dietetic internship  through Virginia State University and received her Master's degree in
Leadership from Norwich University. 
 
 

 
IMMEDIATE PAST-PRESIDENT:Michelle Nardi-edit MICHELLE NARDI, RD, CDN  

Michelle Nardi is the lead clinical dietitian at Cortland Regional Medical Center, where she works in a variety of settings including acute care and long term care.  Michelle completed her undergraduate program and dietetic internship at Cornell University. She resides in Dryden. 

 
  

 

SECRETARY: JENNIFER GARNER, RD

Garner Professional PhotoJennifer is a Registered Dietitian and a doctoral candidate in the Division of Nutritional Science’s combined PhD/RD program. Her research employs mixed methods to evaluate food-systems-focused, community-based nutrition intervention targeting low-income households. Through her research, Jennifer aims to advance our understanding of how to reduce the diet and health disparities experienced by low-income households and to influence policies regarding food access and food assistance for these families.

In addition to her role on the Southern Tier Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics board, Jennifer has served as Co-President of Cornell's Nutrition Graduate Student Organization and is the Chair of the Academy’s Council on Research. In 2017, she was  awarded Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year through the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.   
 

 

FUNDRAISING CO-CHAIR: MARY GRIFFIN, MS, RD, CDN MGRIFFIN copy

Mary Griffin is a Registered Dietitian at the Elmira Psychiatric Center. She previously worked at Arnot Ogden Medical Center's HIV/AIDS Primary Care Clinic as well as in their hemodialysis unit. This is Mary's first time serving as STAND's Fundraising Co-Chair. She has previously held several positions on the STAND board, including President, Professional Issues Chair, Public Policy Chair, and Nominating Chair. Mary lives in Elmira, NY with her husband, two children, one dog, two cats, and one chicken.

Stephanie deeply enjoys thinking about, tasting, and talking about food.  Her interest in food drew her to nutrition, where she became interested in the effects of the food we eat on our lives and communities (and the effects of our lives and communities on the foods we eat!).  She is currently completing supervised rotations to become a Registered Dietitian at the New York State Veteran's Home at Oxford, Cortland Regional Medical Center, and Arnot Ogden Medical Center.  She continues to be involved in research through projects on program evaluation and culinary education.

 

 


 
MEMBERSHIP CHAIR: ELIZABETH SWEENEY, RD, CDNElizabeth Sweeney - edit
Elizabeth is a 2012 graduate of Marywood University's Coordinated Program with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition
and Dietetics. She has spent the past five years working as a clinical dietitian at Lourdes Hospital with a focus on
inpatient oncology and hospice, and outpatient radiation oncology. In the near future, Elizabeth hopes to become a
Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition. Elizabeth received the honor of Recognized Young Dietitian of the
Year awarded by NYSAND in 2016.

PUBLIC POLICY CHAIR: PAMELA WEISBERG-SHAPIRO  PhD, MPH, RD

 Pamela Weisberg-Shapiro works at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, teaching undergraduate and graduate students.  She coordinates the community nutrition portion of the Dietetic Internship, working community nutrition preceptors throughout New York.  Pamela is interested in health disparities and social determinants of health and her research focuses on nutrition and health in immigrant populations.  Her overall goal is to facilitate environmental and policy changes that provide access to healthy food for all. 
 

 
NOMINATING CHAIR: CINDY MILNER, MSEd, RDN, CSSD, CDNCMilner head shot
Cindy works at Cayuga Center for Healthy Living in Ithaca and teaches as a lecturer at Ithaca College.  Cindy graduated from WV Wesleyan College, completed her dietetic internship at Emory University School of Medicine and received her Masters from SUNY Cortland. Cindy has been a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics for the past 11 years. In the distant past, Cindy served terms as the Professional Issues Chair, Public Policy representative and Nominating Chair for STAND (then STDA). 
 

 
PUBLIC RELATIONS/NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH CHAIR: CHRISTINE FOY MS, RD, CDN, CDE CFOY
 Christine is an outpatient dietitian and certified diabetes educator at the UHS Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in Binghamton, NY. She is also a certified insulin pump trainer for Medtronic, Tandem and Omnipod. She is the chair of the Weight Management Teaching Day Committee at UHS. Christine is currently serving as the NYSAND State Professional Recruitment Coordinator and is on the 2019 NYSAND AME planning committee. She was awarded the 2012 Recognized Young Dietitian of the year award by NYSAND. 
 

 
COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR: NOLAN BRYAN REESE, RD, CDNDSCF3637 3
 
Nolan is a 2015 graduate of Cornell University and completed his dietetic internship at The Sage Colleges. Following his internship he worked for Cornell University Dining as the interim dietitian for the program. He is currently the outpatient bariatric dietitian at Lourdes Hospital with Touchpoint Support Services. In his spare time Nolan enjoys the Ithaca Farmer’s Market, golfing, fishing, and cooking new recipes.

Kelvin is a clinical dietitian at UHS Binghamton General Hospital. His focus in nutrition specializes in long-term care/physical rehabilitation settings. He is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and completed his combined dietetic internship/Masters of Science in Nutrition at CUNY Queens College in Flushing, NY. 

 


 

BYLAWS/HANDBOOK CHAIR: JULIE LEONARD, RD, CDN

JLeonardJulie is a Registered Dietitian with over 14 years experience in clinical nutrition and management in the Binghamton area.  She is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Lourdes Hospital with Touchpoint Support Services.  She graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 2001 and completed her dietetic internship through the Sodexo Distance Education Dietetic Internship Program, with clinical training at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY.  She has served on the Board of Directors for STAND since 2011.  She was awarded the 2014 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award by NYSAND.

Julie Douglass

Julie Lee is a Registered Dietitian from Binghamton, NY. Julie currently works for Binghamton University Dining Services as a campus dietitian.  Julie served on the board for the last 5 years in the positions of New RD-Student Liaison, Public Relations Chair, and PIC Committee. Julie received the honor of Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year awarded by NYSAND in 2015.  She currently lives in Endicott, NY with her husband Kelvin (who is also on the board)!


REIMBURSEMENT: MONIQUE DEKLEERMAEKER, RD, CDN, HHC 

Monique DekleermaekerMonique received her nutrition degree from Syracuse University, in the coordinated undergraduate program for clinical nutrition specialists. She has worked in the areas of critical care, pediatrics and cardiology in Utica, Syracuse and Chicago. She is a certified Adult Weight Management Specialist, and also certified as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, NYC. She currently works part-time in her private practice, Three Point Wellness. Monique lives in Binghamton with her husband and 2 sons, Alexander and Eric.  

 

 


 
NEW RD/STUDENT LIASON: MICHELLE GIMBAR, MS, RD
 
Michelle is a 2016 graduate of SUNY Oneonta's Combined Dietetic Internship and Masters Program. She is currently the Director of Nutrition Services at Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, where she serves as the renal dietitian. She was recently published in the November 2017 addition of the Journal of Renal Nutrition and looks forward to completing more research in the future. She resides in Binghamton with her husband and son.
