Michelle Nardi-edit
PRESIDENT: MICHELLE NARDI, RD, CDN, CNSC

Michelle Nardi is the lead clinical dietitian at Cortland Regional Medical Center, where she works in a variety of settings including acute care and long term care. She also enjoys teaching a class on emotional eating with a licensed social worker.  Michelle completed her undergraduate program and dietetic internship at Cornell University. She resides in Dryden.

PRESIDENT-ELECT:  LINA BEGDACHE, PHD, RDN, CNS-S 

Lina Begdache is assistant professor in the Health and Wellness Studies department at Binghamton University. She is a dietetian/nutritionist and a cell and molecular biologist whose research on nutrition involves both laboratory and clinical approaches.  Her research interests include nutrition in relation to neurodegeneration, micorbiota and stress. 


IMMEDIATE PAST-PRESIDENT: HELEN BATTISTI, PHD, RD, CDN

Helen, Registered Dietitian, is an Assistant Professor at Marywood University, Scranton, Pennsylvania in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics where she teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.  At Marywood, she is also the Director of the Coordinated Program (CP) in Nutrition and Dietetics.  Dr. Battisti has worked in the area of healthy living throughout the lifecycle for over 20 years and maintains a small private 

helen battistipractice at Endwell Family Physicians, Endwell, New York.  She has been the PR Chair and Co-chair for the STAND and was the President this past year.  She is currently the NYSAND Task Force Chair
assigned to develop the NYSAND corporate sponsorship policy.  Her current research is examining Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) to improve the delivery of health education to children living in rural communities and, examining faculty awareness of online instructional needs of students with disabilities.

SECRETARY: JENNIFER GARNER, RD

Garner Professional PhotoJennifer completed a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at Central Michigan University and is now at Cornell studying Community Nutrition in the Division of Nutritional Science's combined PhD/RD program. Her research is focused on the design, implementation, and evaluation of food systems-focused nutrition interventions targeting low-resource families. In addition to her role as Secretary of STAND, she mentors undergraduate research students, is co-PresideNT of the Nutrition Graduate Student Organization, and serves as Vice Chair of the Academy's Council on  Research.



Christine Foy

FUNDRAISING CHAIR: CHRISTINE FOY, MS, RD, CDN, CDE

Christine currently works as a certified diabetes educator at the UHS Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in Johnson City, NY and is also a certified insulin pump trainer. Prior to her current position, she worked as a clinical dietitian at UHS Wilson Medical Center for 6 years. She is currently the chair of the Weight Management Teaching Day Committee at UHS.  She is currently serving as the State Professional Recruitment Coordinator for NYSAND. She was awarded the 2012 Recognized Young Dietitian of the year award by NYSAND.  


MEMBERSHIP CHAIR: ELIZABETH SWEENEY, RD, CDNElizabeth Sweeney - edit
Elizabeth is a 2012 graduate of Marywood University's Coordinated Program with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. She has spent the last four years working as a clinical dietitian at Lourdes Hospital with a focus on oncology. In the near future, Elizabeth hopes to become a Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition. Elizabeth received the honor of Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year awarded by NYSAND in 2016.
 

Julie Douglass

PIC COMMITTEE: JULIE LEE, MS, RD, CDN

Julie Lee is a Registered Dietitian from Binghamton, NY. Julie currently works for Binghamton University Dining Services as a campus dietitian.  Julie served on the board for the last 4 years in the positions of New RD-Student Liaison, Public Relations Chair, and PIC Committee. Julie received the honor of Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year awarded by NYSAND in 2015.  She currently lives in Endicott, NY with her husband Kelvin (who is also on the board!).

Kelvin Lee Student Liason

Kelvin is a clinical dietitian at UHS Binghamton General Hospital. His focus in nutrition specializes in long-term care/physical rehabilitation settings. He is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and completed his combined dietetic internship/Masters of Science in Nutrition at CUNY Queens College in Flushing, NY. 

 

 

 


PUBLIC POLICY CHAIR: PAMELA WEISBERG-SHAPIRO  PhD, MPH, RD

Pamela Weisberg-Shapiro works at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, teaching undergraduate and graduate students.  She coordinates the community nutrition portion of the Dietetic Internship, working community nutrition preceptors throughout New York.  Pamela is interested in health disparities and social determinants of health and her research focuses on nutrition and health in immigrant populations.  Her overall goal is to facilitate environmental and policy changes that provide access to healthy food for all. 

CYNTHIA CAVE-GAETANI, MS, RD, CDN
Cynthia Cave Gaetani

Cynthia is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist with over 20 years of diversified experience in clinical care and management. Her professional background includes completion of the CDR Certificate of Training in both Pediatric and Adult Weight Management, and leadership certificiate of training through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Leadership Institute. She has a Master's of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of New Haven, Connecticut and completed her dietetic internship through Sage Graduate School in Troy, New York. She currently works as the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Lourdes Hospital through Touchpoint Support services and lives in Binghamton with her husband and two children, her greatest accomplishments.  


PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIR:  KIRTAN SINGH MS, RD, CDN


COMMUNICATIONS CO-CHAIR: ALEXANDRA CLINTON, MA, RD, CDNAlexandra Clinton-edit

Alexi is happy to be serving another year on the STDA board! She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Ithaca Health Alliance, provides outpatient nutrition counseling at the Ithaca Free Clinic, and sits on the Nutrition Program Committee of the Cornell Cooperate Extension. Alexi received her B.S. in Nutritional Sciences in 2005 from the University of Arizona, and completed her Dietetic Internship in 2006 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She also holds a B.A. in Psychology from Cornell University, and a M.A. in Anthropology from California State University, East Bay. Alexi lives in Ithaca, NY with her husband and two cats, and works as a clinical dietitian at Cayuga Medical Center.

COMMUNICATIONS CO-CHAIR: LAUREN MARINO, RDN, CDN, CDE:             

Lauren is a 2008 graduate of West Chester University with a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. She completed her internship in 2008-2009 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.She haspreviously worked an inpatient dietitian at Geisinger Medical Center and as an inpatient and outpatient dietitian for New York-Presbyterian Queens. Lauren currently works at the Tompkins/Cortland County VA Clinic and per-diem at Cayuga Medical Center. Lauren is passionate about working with individuals with diabetes mellitus and is a certified diabetes educator.

 


REIMBURSEMENT CHAIR: PEGGY BOWLES
Peggy earned her degree in dietetics from Syracuse University. She has worked for the past 19 years in both inpatient and outpatient, as well as long term care and psychiatric. She is a returning member of STDA.

Julie is a Registered Dietitian with over 13 years experience in clinical nutrition and management in the Binghamton area.  She is the Clinical Nutrition Manager at Lourdes Hospital with Touchpoint Support Services.  She graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 2001 and completed her dietetic internship through the Sodexo Distance Education Dietetic Internship Program, with clinical training at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY.  She has served on the Board of Directors for STAND since 2011.  She was awarded the 2014 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award by NYSAND.

FUNDRAISING CHAIR: JOANNE JACKSON, MS, RD, CDN, LDN

Joanne has been a member of STDA for more than 20 years. Working in several nursing homes, her career has focused on long term care. In her spare time, she enjoys quilting, traveling, and skiing.


TREASURER: REBECCA ROBINS, MSL, RD, CDN
 
Rebecca Robins is a Registered Dietitian at UHS Oncology.  Prior to this position she spent eight years as a clinical dietitian at UHS Wilson Hospital and two years as a nutrition care manager in long term care.

She received her Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition from Plattsburgh State University, completed her dietetic internship through Virginia State University and received her Master's degree in Leadership from Norwich University. 






Monique Dekleermaeker

REIMBURSEMENT: MONIQUE DEKLEERMAEKER, RD, CDN, HHC

Monique received her nutrition degree from Syracuse University, in the coordinated undergraduate program for clinical nutrition specialists. She has worked in the areas of critical care, pediatrics and cardiology in Utica, Syracuse and Chicago. She is a certified Adult Weight Management Specialist, and also certified as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, NYC. She currently works part-time in her private practice, Three Point Wellness. Monique lives in Binghamton with her husband and 2 sons, Alexander and Eric.  


STUDENT LIASON (CORNELL): NOLAN BRYAN REESE, RD
Nolan is a 2015 graduate of Cornell University and completed his dietetic internship at The Sage Colleges. Following his internship he worked for Cornell University Dining as the interim dietitian for the program. He is currently the outpatient bariatric dietitian at Lourdes Hospital with Touchpoint Support Services. In his spare time Nolan enjoys the Ithaca Farmer’s Market, golfing, fishing, and cooking new recipes.DSCF3637 3
